Parents of Red and Orange Bus Riders,
We have already gotten off to a concerning start regarding student behavior on our school buses. Today, we received notification from the Transportation Department regarding inappropriate behavior that occurred on the bus yesterday afternoon. Video footage was also provided, and the behavior observed does not reflect Gilliard’s expectations or the expectations of the Mobile County Public School System.
The video showed students standing while the bus was in motion, standing on seats, throwing objects, and engaging in roughhousing. These actions create a serious safety concern for everyone on the bus and will not be tolerated. Please remind your child that riding the school bus is a privilege, and students are expected to follow all bus safety rules at all times.
As a result of the behavior observed, multiple students will be suspended from riding the bus. Students will be permitted to ride the bus home today, Friday, August 14, 2026. Please check your child’s book bag this afternoon for a green bus suspension notice. Bus suspensions will go into effect on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Unless you send written notification to your child’s teacher through Thrillshare, students who are suspended from the bus will be sent to carpool for dismissal beginning Monday. Parents may also come to the front office to complete a Change of Dismissal Form. Phone calls will not be accepted for dismissal changes.
Please speak with your child about the importance of appropriate behavior and following all safety expectations while riding the school bus. We need your support in maintaining a safe, orderly, and respectful environment for all students.
Thank you for your immediate attention and cooperation.
Mrs. Gray
Assistant Principal

As a reminder, students may not be dropped off in front of the school. All vehicles must proceed through the designated carpool line. For their safety, students must remain in their vehicles until directed to exit by a staff member.
Students should not arrive on campus before 7:45 a.m. Your cooperation with these procedures helps us maintain a safe and orderly arrival process for all students.
If you have any questions, please contact an administrator.

For those who haven't completed summer registration, please note that your child has not been placed on a class roster. We will have a normal take-in for those parents who pre-registered their children. The office will not be open for registration while we are welcoming students back to school. We are asking you to exercise patience because there will be a wait.
If your child is a car rider, please be patient as the carpool staff gets familiar with the loading process. During the first week, students will bring home forms that need to be returned to the teacher, so please check your child's bookbag daily. We will be communicating all messages through the MCPSS Thrillshare App. For any questions or concerns, feel free to call us at (251) 221-1820. Thank you!
